BEL AIR, Md. - The script was written and there to be acted out, but the Harford men's basketball team dropped its season finale, 89-75, to Northern Virginia on Wednesday.
The Fighting Owls had a chance to end the season on a high note, and a pair of sophomores did everything that they could to make that happen, but faltered down the stretch. Trying to snap a 13-game losing streak, Harford battled until about the eight-minute media timeout before running out of gas.
Sophomores
Chidozie Omile and
Wyatt Smith both scored 26 points and connected on 10 field goals in the loss. They were both exceptional in the first half, as Omile was 7-for-10 from the floor with 15 points and Smith was 6-for-10 with 13 points and nine rebounds. Smith finished with his team-best eighth double-double ending the contest with 14 rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots.
Tyler Napierala netted 13 points, including 2-of-3 from distance. Five NOVA players totaled double figures in the pull away win, led by Darnell Ross' 19 markers.
Harford finishes the 2013-14 season on a 14-game losing streak.
