COLUMBIA, Md. - The Harford volleyball team opened the 2014 season with a pair of victories at the Dragon Invitational on Saturday. The Fighting Owls defeated CCBC Essex, 3-1, and CC of Rhode Island, 3-0.

Harford will face Montgomery on Sunday to determine the winner of Pool B. The Raptors also defeated CCBC Essex and CCRI on Saturday.

A total team effort was used in both contests, as all 13 players saw action and contributed. In the opener, rookies Haleigh Plummer and Tiyana Bumbray both had eight kills and four aces in their collegiate debuts. Sophomore Lauren Brown had six kills, 19 digs and seven blocks while classmate Christianna Belzner added six blocks. Freshman middle Phoenix Offutt was a defensive star with 12 total blocks, including nine of the solo variety. Fabiana Della-Monica had 26 assists and 11 digs while Victoria Karayinopulos chipped in with 28 digs.

In the CCRI contest, Karayinopulos collected 25 digs and Deja Williams was the lucky one with seven kills, seven digs and seven blocks. Jamie Tubao added nine assists in the winning effort.
