Men's Soccer Rolls Past Catonsville, 5-1

Box Score BEL AIR, Md. - Men's Soccer started it's first win streak of the season Friday night, topping CCBC Catonsville 5-1.

A free kick goal just 1:01 into the game from Cardinals midfielder Najai Gordon raised memories of the loss to Essex last Friday. The Fighting Owls were a lot more resilient tonight though. They were able to take a shot to the chops and give it right back in a big way. Harford (2-3, 2-1 MD JUCO) scored five unanswered goals to pick up their first win of the season at Harford Stadium.

It was a breakout game for the Fighting Owls on the offensive end as they came into the game with just three goals scored in the first four games of the season. Head coach Jason Muffoletto got a balanced effort from the team in that regard as five different players hit the back of the net.

Solomon Koomson-Dadzie was the catalyst of the Harford comeback in the first half as he assisted on the equalizing goal and scored the one that put the team on top for good. In the 16th minute he found space down the left wing and fired a cross into the box. Noah Walker got on the end of it and hit his mark from close range for his first goal of the season. Koomson-Dadzie scored the winner in the 23rd minute in spectacular fashion. Farhan Bachu lobbed a cross from just inside the sideline on the right wing. Koomson-Dadzie rose above two Cardinal defenders to head it from just inside the box, over the keeper and into the net. It was a display of athleticism and audacity from Koomson-Dadzie.

Harford built on there lead five minutes into the second half as they drew a penalty. Catonsville backup keeper Mauricio Franco attempted to clear a through ball at the edge of the box but was late and clipped Camillo Fortunato with his glove, bringing him down for the spot kick. Franco lost his composure and punted the ball towards midfield, drawing a yellow card and forcing starting keeper Wilfred Damey to defend the penalty shot. Nat Hand stepped up for Harford to take the shot and converted cooly, slotting it into the bottom right corner with Damey guessing the wrong way.

Logan Hennlein put the Fighting Owls up 4-1 in the 59th minute as he got on the end of a Walker's through ball from midfield. Catonsville's backline was caught high and Hennlein was in alone on the keeper. He fired a shot from the right into left side netting from inside the box for his first goal of the season. John Lynn added a fifth for Harford in the 79th minute as he capitalized on Franco's scuffed punt. He scored his first goal of the season on a one-on-one with the keeper to finish off the scoring.

Stephen Friend was solid for Harford in goal making six saves. The lone goal came on a virtually unstoppable shot from the free kick.

Harford will look to get back to .500 when they travel to Arnold, Md. to face Anne Arundel on Wednesday (Sept. 17).
