COLUMBIA, Md. -- Head Coach Mike Smelkinson's return to his old stomping grounds was spoiled as Men's Basketball fell to Howard, 86-73. Harford (9-11, 4-4 MD JUCO) led by four at the half but were outscored 52-35 in the second half. The Fighting Owls didn't help themselves as they were charged with 18 fouls in the second half. Howard took full advantage as they made 23 of 27 free throw attempts in the decisive half.
 
Exzavier Cooper had a strong game for the Fighting Owls, scoring 16 points on 5-for-12 shooting. He pulled in 14 rebounds and blocked three shots and had a steal. Brandon Spain led the team in scoring with 20 points while pulling in seven rebounds. He also had three assists and two blocks.
 
Smelkinson was head coach at Howard for three years prior to taking the job at Harford this season.
 
Harford will stay on the road for their next contest as they travel to face Hagerstown this Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
