HAGERSTOWN, Md. - In an MD JUCO first place battle between the Hagerstown Hawks and the Harford women, it was sophomore point guard
Jazmin Johnson who stole the show with a 42-point outburst to propel the Fighting Owls to an impressive 88-74 road win on Monday.
Johnson shot 17-for-26 from the floor to produce the second-most points by a Fighting Owl in school history. Last season, Harford's all-time leading scorer
Capree Garner set the school record with 46 points in a contest. She also shot 17-for-26 from the floor in a blowout win over Delaware Tech on 11/12/13. Johnson was 2-for-6 from behind the arc and 6-for-8 from the charity stripe while handing out five assists in the critical road win.
The Fighting Owls started slow but took a 38-34 lead into the break. Harford (17-4, 8-1 MD JUCO) scored the first seven points of the second half and never looked back to remain tied atop the MD JUCO Standings with Baltimore City (8-1) and Chesapeake (7-1).
The Fighting Owl bigs of Ashley Hightower and
Jasalyn Denkins tallied 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Mia Fitts had seven points and five boards and
Ashley Smith grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out nine assists in the win, both team highs.
The Fighting Owls travel to Anne Arundel (5-12, 1-7 MD JUCO) on Wednesday.Â
