Star Spain-gled Debut Snaps Skid

Box Score
NORTH EAST, Md. -,In what the Harford coaches would tell you was his long-awaited introduction to Fighting Owl basketball, sophomore transfer Brandon Spain would not allow his new team to lose on Saturday. Spain's heroics were aplenty in Harford's 93-91 comeback road victory over Cecil.

The point guard netted all 19 points in the second half, including the game winner with 2.7 seconds left. The Fighting Owls trailed by 14 points with 5:30 remaining and by 10 with 2:30 left, but Spain would not let his teammates down in his first game of the season.

Spain, who missed the previous 15 contests with a facial fracture, had not played a collegiate game since the 2013 NJCAA DII National Tournament. He went 0-for-2 in the opening half, but turned it on after intermission.

Spain connected on his only triple of the game with 53 seconds left to cut the lead to 89-87. After a Harford foul, the Seahawks connected on a pair of free throws to go back up by four, 91-87. Alie Kondeh connected on a jumper and then a Malachi Seney steal and lay-up tied the game at 91-91 with 16 seconds left.

Spain corralled another Harford steal and the Fighting Owl coaches called timeout to set up a play. Unfortunately for Harford, Spain threw the ball away with eight ticks remaining, but he immediately stole the inbounds pass and hit the game-winning jumper with 2.7 seconds left. Harford was whistled for another foul, and Cecil had a chance to tie it at the line but missed both free throws.

Four Fighting Owls totaled at least 14 points in the win, led by Spain's 19. Exzavier Cooper added 15 before fouling out and Seney and Jon Warren both chipped in with 14 markers. Toney Floyd scored all eight of his points off the bench in the second half.

The Fighting Owls return home for an 11 a.m. tipoff against CCBC Catonsville on Wednesday at the APGFCU Arena.
