BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford men's basketball team knocked off conference leading Frederick on Friday, 73-69. The Fighting Owls scored eight of the final 10 points over the last two minutes to secure the win.
Brandon Spain led the charge with 20 points while
Jon Warren added a dozen.
Cameron Smith had 11 and
Exzavier Cooper just missed his fifth-straight double-double with eight points and 14 caroms.
With Harford clinging to a 70-67 lead with 23 seconds remaining, Cooper corralled a Spain miss and put it in for a 3-point cushion. The defnese held the Cougars to a poor shot and Cooper grabbed his 14th rebound in the final seconds for the win. Spain's 3-pointer with 2:08 remaining gave Harford the lead for good.
The win puts Harford on the verge of clinching a top-8 spot in next month's MD JUCO Tournament. The Fighting Owls would clinch a spot with a win over Prince George's on Wednesday or with help from around the league.
