LARGO, Md. - The Harford men's soccer team earned a hard-fought MD JUCO road tie on Tuesday at Prince George's. A pair of first-half tallies and a
Justin Almquist's overtime save preserved the point for the Fighting Owls.
After Prince George's scored in the game's second minute, Barbosa found
Ben Smith for the goal in the 28th minute. Then, just before the half,
Tom O'Daniels' corner kick to
Caleb Hebb reseulted in a 2-1 Harford lead.
Kelly Marah, who scored just 1:19 into the contest, scored another quick goal, 1:17 into the second half, to knot the score at two. The PG Owls had 11 shots in the second half, forcing Almquist to earn his keep in net. He also was forced to make the only save in extra time to save the tie for Harford. Almquist made seven saves in the battle.
With a 6-3-1 MD JUCO mark, the Fighting Owls' 19 points put them in fifth place in the conference standings, three points behind Montogmery and PG, with identical 7-2-1 marks. Harford has two MD JUCO contests left, both at home. On Thursday, the Fighting Owls celebrate Sophomore Night against Howard at 7:30 p.m. Next week, the Fighting Owls face Allegany in a make-up contest. With a pair of victories in those matches, the Fighting Owls could climb as high as second-place in the 13-team standings.
