Box Score SUPPLY, N.C. - The Harford men's basketball team dropped the opening game of the Brunswick Tournament to the holiday hosts, 77-76. The Dolphins hit a pair of free throws with under six seconds left for the win.
Harford trailed by 15 in the first half but used a huge second-half adjustment to take the lead down the stretch. A trapping press put on by head coach
Mike Smelkinson flipped the script and the Fighting Owls led by six midway through the second half.
A back-to-back long shots by
Jon Warren and
Jay Johnson (one triple, one long two with a toe on the line) advanced Harford's lead to seven ith under two minutes to go, but Brunswick started to chip away.
With 17 seconds left and Harford leading 76-75,
Jalen Thompson was fouled. The forward missed both and after the Dolphins corralled the carom, they called timeout with six seconds left. Harford committed a foul under the hoop and Brunswick connected on both freebies for the 77-76 lead. A last-second heave by
Davonte Williams was half way down the cylindar before falling out in the loss.
Aaron McDonald and
Evason Ogbonna both scored 13 points while Warren and
Cedric Hines added 10.
Fadil Robinson scored nine and pulled in a team-best 13 rebounds.
The Fighting Owls continue the three-day tournament on Thursday.
