Stayin' Alive: MBB Advances To RXX Final

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Harford men's basketball team advanced to its first Region Final with an 86-74 victory over the host Hagerstown Hawks on Friday evening. The 2015 NJCAA Region XX Championship Game will tip on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Hagerstown.

The Fighting Owls trio that just earned All-Region XX honors were the stars on display in the RXX Semifinal. Brandon Spain led all scorers with 24 points and Exzavier Cooper and Jon Warren both chipped in with 22 in the victory, a total of 68 of the 86 points, and they were key in the game-deciding run.

The score was knotted at 32-32 at the break and the homestanding Hawks rattled off the first eight points of the second half, but the Fighting Owls didn't waiver. A 19-3 Harford run turned an 8-point deficit into an 8-point lead and the Fighting Owls never looked back.

Spain, Cooper and Warren converted 17 of the 19 points in the pivotal run that began on a Spain triple. After the spurt, Cooper responded with three of his own, and Warren connected on back-to-back dunks, and the Fighting Owls were onto their first Region Championship Game in school history.

Harford shot above 50 percent from the floor for the seventh time this season, and the terrific trio was a huge factor in that percentage. Spain and Warren both shot 10-for-16 from the floor while Cooper was 9-of-18 for a combined percentage of 58.0 (29-for-50).

Malachi Seney recorded 12 points, and was the other Fighting Owl to chip in during the 19-3 spurt. Cooper added 10 boards for the double-double, Warren collected eight caroms and Spain added seven assists and six rebounds.
