BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford men's lacrosse team dropped its season opener in double overtime to Northern Virginia, 17-16. NOVA scored the game winner with 1.3 seconds left in the second extra session.

The Fighting Owls took a 16-13 lead with 4:13 remaining in the contest, but NOVA scored the final three goals of regulation, including the game-tying goal 2:01 left. After a scoreless first overtime period, Justin Hyde beat the buzzer with a man advantage with 1.3 seconds left.

Harford led throughout the contest, and took an 11-7 lead into the half. Leading 13-9 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Fighting Owls allowed eight of the final 11 goals.

Freshman Jeremy Scranton scored six goals in his collegiate debut while Mike Cooke netted five goals in his first contest. Andrew Lebrun scored twice and dished out five assists in the loss.

All three goalies played in the contest. Mark Wollenweber played the first half, and made eight saves. Ethan White played the third quarter, allowing just two goals and making four saves. Chris DiBlasi played the fourth quarter and both overtimes, making five saves but taking the loss.

The Fighting Owls travel to Stevenson JV on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
