BEL AIR, Md. - The No. 12 Harford women's soccer team dropped its season opener to Rhode Island on Sunday, 3-2. The Fighting Owls scored two late tallies, but their comeback bid fell short.
Sophomores
Emily Naff and
Angela Kuhn netted the second-half goals for Harford. Trailing 3-0, Naff's laser of a free kick from just outside the box in the 49th minute opened the scoring. Kuhn headed in a perfect corner from freshman
Abbie Springer with three minutes left, but the Fighting Owls could get no closer.
The Knights' Kyanna Ivey-Jones scored a pair of first half markers to give CCRI a lead they would not relinquish. But a quick score by Catherine Lopes just 31 seconds into the second-half proved to be the game-winner. Freshman
Jazmine Thacker made three saves in her first collegaite contest.
The Fighting Owls are back in action on Friday at home against Louisburg. The contest kicks off at noon.
