BEL AIR, Md. – The Harford men's soccer team fell to Anne Arundel, 3-0, to end their four-game unbeaten streak. The Fighting Owls had won three and drew one of their previous four games.
Harford (3-2-1, 3-1-0 MD JUCO) struggled offensively, putting just two out of nine shots on goal. It was a tough test against Anne Arundel (6-1-1, 4-1-1 MD JUCO) who came into Harford Stadium atop the MD JUCO standings and looked every bit the part of first place team. The visiting Riverhawks peppered Harford with 27 shots, 11 of which were on goal.
After a scoreless first half, the Riverhawks jumped on the Fighting Owls less than a minute into the second half with a tap-in goal by Garrett McClendon set up by Robert Masters. McClendon scored again just seven minutes later with Masters' dishing out another assist. Juan Tamayo scored the Riverhawks third in the final minute, assisted by Michael Thompson.
Justin Almquist played a strong game in goal for the Fighting Owls and kept his team in the game in the first half with some excellent saves. His biggest save came when he was one-on-one with Masters. With Masters through on goal, Almquist got off his line quick, cut down the angle and stretched out to smother the chance and keep the game scoreless. The keeper made eight saves in a losing effort.
Harford will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Rockville Friday to face Montgomery at 2 p.m.
