COLUMBIA, Md. - The Harford volleyball team (6-2) reached the 2015 Dragon Invitational finals on Sunday, but fell to Nassau in straight sets. The Fighting Owls went 2-2 on the day, losing both matches to Nassau.
Morgan Tennant was named Dragon Invitational Tournament MVP with 84 assists in six matches and an amazing 15 aces in the Baltimore City win.
Harford dropped a three-set match to Nassau to open the day but bounced back to reach the semifinals with a three-set win over rival Baltimore City. In the semifinals, the Fighting Owls topped Montgomery in straight sets to set up a rematch with Nassau.
Nassau 2, Harford 1The Fighting Owls cruised in the first set, but the Lions roared back to hand Harford its first loss of the season, 7-25, 25-21, 15-13.
Tiyana Bumbray led the way with eight kills and 14 digs. Three other Fighting Owls had three kills, including
Alicia Horton, who totaled five blocks and Tennant totaled 13 assists.
Harford 2, Baltimore City 1Horton led the Fighting Owls with five kills in the win over the Panthers, 20-25, 25-7, 15-7. Braqulle Horton collected 11 digs and
Haleigh Plummer chipped in with four kills while Tennant crushed 15 service aces.
Semifinals
Harford 2, Montgomery 0The Fighting Owls charged into the finals with a straight-sets win over the Raptors, 25-19, 25-23. Tennant assisted on 20 of the 21 team kills while Bumbray tallied eight kills and nine digs to lead the team. Plummer had six kills, no errors and three service aces.
Finals
Nassau 2, Harford 0The Lions finished the tournament undefeated by besting the Fighting Owls in the finals, 25-19, 25-20. Plummer's six kills was a team-high while
Alicia Horton and Bumbray added five.
The Fighting Owls return home to face Anne Arundel in an MD JUCO match on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
