HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set showed everyone in the arena why Hagerstown had been undefeated in conference play up to this point as the Hawks dominated.
  • The second set was a back and forth affair until Harford went on a 6-1 streak with Savannah Meyers picking up a couple of big kills in the stretch. Hagerstown went on a run of six in a row to tie the set at 20-20. However, the Fighting Owls fought back led by Jenna Hathazi and her two late kills to tie the match at 1-1.
  • Harford jumped out to an early lead in set three and never gave it up with Phoenix Offutt closing out the set with a booming attack.
  • The fourth set was some of the most exciting volleyball Harford has experienced in years as the tension boiled up. Harford was in great shape as a kill by Hathazi gave the Fighting Owls three match points. Hagerstown won four points in a row to earn a set point of their own. The teams swapped points a few more times, with Harford finally getting another match point after a Hannah Roussey set-attack for a kill. A few more tense points went by until the Fighting Owls had their fifth attempt at a match points, and this time made it count as Rebekah Hanshaw served an ace to win the match.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Hagerstown finishes conference play with a 10-1 record with Harford just behind at 9-1. If the Fighting Owls were to win at Southern Maryland, Harford and Hagerstown would share the 2016 Md Juco conference championship.
  • Jenna Hathazi was magnificent in the match as she put down 13 kills along with 14 digs for another double-double.
  • Savannah Meyers also picked up a double-double as she finished with 10 kills and 13 digs along with 3 block assists.
  • Hannah Roussey had a great night setting as she tallied 45 assists as she leads the conference with 7.44 assists per set.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will  travel to Southern Maryland on Friday, October 19th for a 6 PM match that the Fighting Owls will see as a must-win game.
  • Southern Maryland is currently 11-7 on the season and 7-1 in Md Juco conference play; they sit in third place behind Harford and Hagerstown. If Southern Maryland won the rest of the games in their regular season schedule, they would share the conference title with Hagerstown.
