HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • ASA got ahead early with an 8-0 run to start the game as the Fighting Owls were held scoreless for the first 4 minutes of the game.
  • Daisa Harris scored the first 8 Harford points with a long range three-pointer and three free throws after getting fouled from behind the arc.
  • Danielle Durjan then got into the action, hitting a three point shot and making a fast break lay-up. Still, the Fighting Owls trailed by 8 after the first quarter.
  • After a nice turnaround move by Therese Gilmore, Harris went at it again hitting a shot and getting fouled while making the ensuing free throw. After Harris made another shot a minute later to get Harford within two, her emotions got the best of her as she was charged with a technical foul. ASA's Amber Wilson made a three point shot shortly after to give ASA a seven point lead.
  • That was the tip of the iceberg as it all went Harford's way after that as the Fighting Owls went on a 16-2 run to close out the half. The run was fueled by the whole team thanks to a hoop and harm by Dominique Walker, three straight made shots by Durjan, an offensive board and put back by Dahnye Redd, and a trey by Alysha Berry to close out the half.
  • The third quarter was more of the same as the Killer Ds continued to dominate Danielle, Daisa, Dominique, and Dahnye all made multiple buckets to extend the Fighting Owls lead to as much as 13.
  • The final stanza became nervy in the first couple of minutes as the Avengers cut the Fighting Owls lead to just three, but Harford closed the game on a 20-2 run to make the final score look a lot more comfortable then the game was.
GAME NOTES:
  • Daisa Harris finished with 32 points and 7 assists as she accounted for 18 of the 32 field goals for the team.
  • Danielle Durjan scored 20 points with 12 of them coming from behind the arc.
  • Dahnye Redd and Dominique Walker were warriors in the paint as Redd finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds while Walker had 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
  • Alysha Berry provided valuable minutes off the bench with 7 points and a couple of assists before fouling out mid-way through the fourth quarter.
COACH'S QUOTE:
  • Head coach Mike Seney: "We couldn't have had a worse start. I was proud to see my team dig deep. I told my team when (ASA) started on an 8-0 run that basketball is a game of runs, they went on theirs, now it's time for us to go on ours. We responded exactly how we needed to."

UP NEXT:
  • The Fighting Owls will begin their conference schedule on Wednesday, November 16th as they travel to Hagerstown for a 6 pm game.
  • Hagerstown is 0-1 on the season after losing 92-52 against Potomac State on November 11th.
