HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Less than 24 hours after suffering their first loss of the season to the #3 team in the country, the Fighting Owls turned right around to face the #1 team in the NJCAA.
  • Gulf Coast came out shooting hot from behind the arc as they shot 10-20 from three point range in the game.
  • Trailing by 11 at halftime, Harford surged forward and cut the Commodore's lead to eight in the third quarter. Gulf Coast answered back quickly and finished the third quarter with a 19 point lead.
  • Once again, the Fighting Owls were determined and were down by ten at 65-75 with five minutes left in regulation. The Commodore's were able to stop the Harford momentum and went on a 9-0 run to open up their lead and comfortably close out the game.
  • Daisa Harris played all 40 minutes and led the team with 29 points and 4 assists.
  • Dominique Walker also had another great game 14 points and 9 rebounds while showing a willingness to battle in the post all night long.
  • Dahnye Redd had 8 points and 8 rebounds as well as the unenviable task of defending the Commodore's bigs throughout the contest.
  • Joy Morton was enjoying a very productive game as she scored 6 points along with 6 rebounds and an assist. However, she was on the receiving end of an unfortunate series of events when a Commodore took a few extra steps and ran into Morton that was inexplicably called a block. Morton showed her displeasure at the call and was given a technical foul.
  • Danielle Durjan had an efficient game with 8 points including 2-6 from long range along with 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

GAME QUOTES AND NOTES:
  • Guard Dasia Harris: "We came up short, but we made them work twice as hard and we fought until the very end."
  • Forward Joy Morton: "We worked hard and never backed down. We showed a lot of heart and fought until the clock hit zeros."
  • Harford shot 43% from the field but just 21% from three point range.
  • Gulf Coast had six different players in double-digit scoring led by Taylor Emery with 25 points. The Commodores shot 50% from three point range but 38% from the field.
  • The Commodores had a significant free throw advantage as they shot 27 times from the charity stripe, making 22 of them. Comparatively, the Fighting Owls shot 8-11 from the free throw line.

UP NEXT:
  • Harford has no more games left in 2016, but will pick up in the new year against rival Baltimore City on Friday, January 6th at 5:30 PM.
