BEL AIR, Md. – The Harford baseball team scored nine runs in the third inning and cruised to a win over Delaware County (0-1), 14-3.
Harford (9-6) hitters were on base seemingly all game as they banged out nine hits, drew seven walks and were hit by pitch four times. Six of their nine hits went for extra bases and they stole six bases as a team.
Joe Burton struck the loudest blow of the game, crushing his second home run of the season just a day after he launched his first. The two-run blast was part of a nine run, six hit assault in the third inning by the Fighting Owls. Coming into the Harford half of the inning the game had been tied at three but was blown wide open, with the Fighting Owls never looking back.
Kyle Burger went 2-for-3 in the game with two triples and a walk. He scored twice and drove in a run.
Jack Hamner and
Daulton Weeks both hit triples as well. Both Hamner and Weeks went 1-for-2 with two runs and two runs batted in.
Ben Bomberger went 1-for-1 with a double, a walk, three runs scored and a run batted in. Bomberger and Hamner stole three and two bases, respectively.
Andrew Carber (3-0) was solid on the mound for the Fighting Owls. He gave up three runs, one of which was earned, on two hits and two walks. He struck out nine Phantom batters over five innings of work. Trey Wilson and
Nick Delp both came on in relief and pitched perfect frames. Wilson struck out a pair in the sixth while Delp whiffed one in the seventh.
The Fighting Owls are back in action on Saturday as they host a doubleheader against Allegany. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
