SUMTER, S.C. - The Harford women's tennis team evened its 2016 record with a sweep of Spartanburg Methodist on Sunday, closing out its spring trip south with a 2-2 mark.
The Fighting Owls bookended wis against USC Sumter and SMC, but fell to ABAC, 9-0, and Oxford of Emory, 7-2.
Sarah Hadjeras lost her first singles match of the season against ABAC, but rebounded with a win at No. 1 singles over Oxford of Emory in a thrid-set tiebreak to sit at 6-1 overall at No. 1 singles in the early season.
Ellen Creswell claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over Oxford of Emory for the other Fighting Owl point. She also earned an easy win over SMC to finish the trip 3-1, with her lone loss coming against ABAC on Saturday.
Both top doubles pairs went 2-2 on the trip. At No. 1 doubles, Hadjeras and
Julie Sibbesen topped SMC and USC Sumter, but dropped a close match agaionst Oxford of Emory, 8-6. At No. 2 doubles,
Jamie Tubao and
Morgan Tennant swept SMC and bested USCS, but fell 8-3 to Oxford. All three doubles pairs were swept by ABAC.
The Fighting Owls host Stevenson on Wednesday and ASA on Friday.
