BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford softball team earned its first sweep of the season on Tuesday, topping Erie 8-0 and 13-4. The Fighting Owl offense exploded and freshman pitcher
Amanda Hildebrandt tossed her first career shutout in the opener.
Harford 8, Erie 0Hildebrandt held the Kats to just three hits while striking out four batters in game one. The Fighting Owls threw a runner out at the plate from the outfield in the first inning and kept another Kats baserunner at third in the second before plating six runs of their own in the bottom of the third to take control.
Julia Sanders doubled home a pair to make it 3-0 and a few batters later,
Lindsey Fenner put the game out of reach with a bases-clearing two-out double. Sanders knocked in two more in the fourth to put the game within the eight-run rule, and Hildebrandt faced three batters in the final frame to lockdown her first clean sheet of the season.
Harford 13, Erie 4The Kats scored two runs in the top of the first, but the Harford offense erased the early defecit with a five-spot in the bottom of the frame as the Fighting Owls cruised to the sweep.Â
Fenner, Hildebrandt and
Emily Wikane all tallied a pair of hits and Fenner knocked in four more runs, one in each plate appearance on the 2-for-3 effort. Sanders and Wikane scored three times on the day and Hildebrandt,
Bethanie Cook and
Jazmyn Gutshall scored twice in the win.
The Fighting Owls host Niagara County on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
