BEL AIR, Md. - The No. 3 Harford women's lacrosse team (9-2, 5-0 MD JUCO) spent a majority of the time in the offensive zone during Tuesday's 15-4 victory over Southern Maryland (3-4, 1-4 MD JUCO). The win gave the Fighting Owls their ninth victory, two away from tying the school record set in 2002.
Lauren Haggerty and
Cassidy Jones both totaled six points in the win while
Megan Aro chipped in with five. Haggerty and
Lauren Cavanaugh both netted four goals and Jones dished out five assists in the rout. The Fighting Owls led 9-1 at the half and quickly got the 10-goal running clock in the second half as they cruised to the win.
For Haggerty, the sophomore extended her NJCAA lead in goals (49), points (64) and draw controls (131) in the win. She had four goals, two assists and 10 draw controls against the Hawks. Jones' five assists upped her NJCAA-leading total to 42, twice as many as the second-place student-athlete.
Defensively,
Allie Storke was solid when tested, allowing just one goal in the opening half and making a total of four saves. She leads the NJCAA with 98Â saves.
Jozlynn Kelly netted a pair of goals while
Victoria LaPierre and
Sierra Donovan both found the back of the net once.
Brittany Minsky had an assist and a team-tying-best seven ground balls. Haggerty,
Nicole Strong and
Sydney Newlon all forced three turnovers while Minsky and Cavanaugh had two.
The Fighting Owls travel to CCBC Essex on Thursday at 5 p.m.
