FLUSHING, N.Y. - The 2016 Harford tennis regular season came to an end on one of the most famous tennis courts in the world. The Fighting Owls played ASA at the US Open as the men lost a close 7-2 contest and the women fell 6-3.
On the men's side, the Avengers swept the doubles for a 3-0 lead, but four of the six singles matches went to a tiebreaker, with ASA winning three of them for the 7-2 lead. Breno Lodi won at No. 1 singles 7-5, 1-6, 11-9 while
Pablo Safont Ferrer won at No. 4 singles, 6-0, ret.Â
Tomas Eduardo Parra Pozo (11-7),
Xavier Graells (10-7) and
Bradley Schug (10-7) dropped their singles matches in tiebreaker.
On the women's side, the Fighting Owls earned forfeit wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and 6 singles. The closest match of the day was at No. 1 singles, where
Sarah Hadjeras dropped a three-set match, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
