BEL AIR, Md. – The Harford Women's Soccer team got their season off to a sizzling start with a dominant 4-0 win over Harcum Tuesday afternoon.
Harford (1-0) carried play from start to finish in their season opener, creating numerous chances and playing the majority of the match in their offensive half of the field. Four Fighting Owls notched the first career goals in the shutout victory over Harcum (0-1).
Multiple Fighting Owls were just off with their finishing in the opening half hour.
Grace Humes' failed attempt to break the seal in the 24
th minute was the epitome of the opening half hour of the game for Harford. Humes made a great move to get past the defense into the box and fired a shot that ricocheted back to her off the post. Her rebound attempt was saved Mureka Howard who had a spectacular game for Harcum turning back 12 of Harford's 16 shots on goal.
The Harford frustrations would come to an end shortly after with a pair goals in quick succession.
Briana Stabile opened the scoring with her first career goal in the 34
th minute. Sophomore
Ciara Harbaugh hit the back of the net three minutes later with her first career goal to make it 2-0.
Stabile helped give Harford a 3-0 lead seven minutes into the second half, assisting on
Mackenzie Wills goal in the 53
rd minute of the game.
Nataya Stewart finished off a driving run down the flank with a shot that squeezed between Howard and the post, giving Harford a 4-0 lead which would end up being the final score.
As a team, the Fighting Owls were able to get off 31 shots. In contrast, Harford keeper
Kristan Shock only saw three shots come her way, none which were much of a threat of ending her shutout.
Harford will be back in action next Wednesday, September 7
th as they will host Montgomery in their MD JUCO opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
