Women's Soccer Drops MD JUCO Opener to Montgomery

BEL AIR, Md. – The Harford Women's Soccer team saw their comeback effort come up just short as they fell to Montgomery, 3-2 for their first loss of the season.

Harford (1-1-0, 0-1-0 MD JUCO) found themselves down 3-0 early in the second half in their first conference game of the season. They pulled two goals back through Jenna Staton and Mackenzie Wills but were unable to find an equalizer.

Montgomery (5-0-1, 2-0-0 MD JUCO) scored twice in the first half and tacked on a third just five minutes into the second half. Jaime Montgomery scored both first half goals for the Raptors. Her first goal was a shot that overpowered Fighting Owls keeper Kristan Shock, deflecting off her hands and bouncing over the line. Montgomery broke down the left flank, shouldered a challenge from a Harford defender and still managed to fire a left footed shot past the keeper and into the side netting for her second goal. Britanny Schultz gave the Raptors a 3-0 lead.

After giving up the third goal, Harford responded quickly, getting on the score sheet just four minutes later. Staton was able to gain possession of the ball after the two teams scrambled for the ball on a corner kick. Staton fired a shot from the top of the 18 yard box that deflected of the keeper's hands and over the line.

The Fighting Owls scored again just seven minutes later as Wills received the ball from Chase Otenasek just outside of the box, made a move and dribbled through the middle of the defense and placed a low shot past the keeper to pull Harford pulled within a goal. The Harford attacked buzzed around the Montgomery area, creating a handful of chances for the final half hour but ultimately were unable to find a way through the Raptors defense.

Harford will be on the road for their next two contests. They take on Howard Saturday at noon and will travel to face Anne Arundel on Tuesday (Sept. 10) at 5 p.m.
