BEL AIR, Md- The Harford men's soccer team won big over Manor College 5-2 as they continue to play strong soccer of late. The victory gets the team's record back to 5-5 as the Fighting Owls continue to make progress in their team play.
The Fighting Owls were able to get off to a dream start as a nice through ball by
Drew Adams opened up
Jerry Washington who took a tight angle shot and scored into the side netting.
Not long after, Harford put together a string of beautiful passes with
Caleb Hebb finding
Larsen Green and a one-touch pass got Washington one-on-one with the keeper. Washington expertly dribbled around the Manor goalkeeper and tapped it into an empty net to give the Fighting Owls a 2-0 lead just before halftime.
Washington picked up his hat trick early in the second half when a poorly weighted back pass to the Manor goalkeeper was intercepted by Washington and he hit the shot through four Blue Jays and into the back of the net.
A controversial hand ball foul was called on Harford's Branden Klepetka that was deemed to be in the box for a Blue Jay penalty kick.
Tanner Peterson guessed the correct side on the kick, but was unable to get his hands on it as Manor cut the Fighting Owls lead to just one.
That call was made up for pretty quickly as Washington was tripped in the box on an Adams corner kick, and Washington took the ball to the spot and nailed it in for his fourth goal of the game.
Green was able to get on the scoreboard with just 10 minutes left in the game when a nice through ball from
Andres Onate found Green on the right side and his shot was able to get around the keeper and into the net for the Fighting Owls fifth goal.
Manor was able to draw another penalty kick late in the second half that was follow by a bizarre set of circumstances. Blue Jays forward Dashan Santiago hit off the cross bar and went straight up into the air. As he came down, Santiago settled under it and was able to head the ball into the Harford goal. However, after some length discussions and some persuasion by the Harford coaches, the referees changed the call and took the goal off the board for the Blue Jays.
That was the last significant action of the game as the Fighting Owls secured their fifth win of the season. They will next travel to Southern Maryland on Tuesday, September 25
th for a 4 PM game.
