Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Md. – The Harford Volleyball team picked up two more wins on day one of the Dragon Invitational hosted by Howard Community College. In their opening match Harford (4-0, 1-0 MD JUCO) won in comeback fashion, defeating Baltimore City 3-2 and later beat Ocean County (N.J.) 3-0.
Harford 3, Baltimore City 2
The Fighting Owls found themselves in an 0-2 hole after the first two sets but were able to battle back and win a pair of tightly contested sets 25-23 and 25-22, before running away with the deciding fifth set, 15-3 in a non-conference match with Baltimore City.
In the match,
Jenna Hathazi and
Hannah Roussey combined for 77 assists. Hathazi led the team with 42 assists while Roussey had 35.
Phoenix Offutt led a balanced attack with 10 kills.
Mary Snow was right behind her with nine kills while
Julia Gatch had eight and
Savannah Meyers had seven. Snow came in with a team-high four block solos. She also led the team, along with Gatch, in service aces with four while
Rebekah Hanshaw led the team with 45 digs.
Harford 3, Ocean County 0
The Fighting Owls were able to beat Ocean County in straight sets, defeating them 25-15, 25-20 and 25-12 to move to 4-0 on the season. Snow and Offutt were dominant at the net, both notching three block solos. Offutt had six kills while Snow had four. Hathazi led the team with eight kills. Roussey had another solid game as the designated setter, piling up 23 assists.
Rebekah Hanshaw led the team with 16 digs.
The Dragon Invitational will continue on Sunday with Harford taking on Southern Maryland in a non-conference match. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
