Fighting Owls Secure Big Win Over Montgomery

White and McCallum lead the way to keep Harford on top of the conference

  • The Short Story: The Harford men's basketball team went into a tough road game and was able to hold on for a big conference win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Dom Keyes played perhaps his best game of the season, with 8 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. He was tasked with guarding star Raptors forward Patrick Smith and held up well the entire day.
  • Isaiah White continues to be the main scoring threat for the Fighting Owls, leading the way with 17 points along with 9 rebounds.
  • Micah Till was a warrior throughout the game with his opponents drawing blood multiple times. A sequence of plays saw Till get hit in the head on a drive to the basket, get knocked over while taking a charge, then get hit into a wall on consecutive plays.
  • Trent McCallum once again came off the bench and took command of the court, scoring 16 points along with 4 assists.
  • Martin Kelly earned some major minutes in the second half, as he scored 13 points and was constantly attacking the basket.

GAME QUOTES AND NOTES:
  • Head Coach Michael Smelkinson: "A lot of guys stepped up and played their hearts out tonight. We followed the game plan, played good pressure defense and were able to come up with a big road win."
  • Freshman guard Trent McCallum: "I felt like we played with intensity tonight, I felt like I did what I needed to do as a point guard with running the offense and causing their point guard to have 8 turnovers. We pushed hard in the second half to keep our lead and push them to the point where they broke down. They got frustrated because we got in their head but we always kept our cool."
  • Sophomore forward Dom Keyes: "It was a hard game boxing out #20, I had to get low protect the basket. It was a huge win for us, kept us on top of the conference. If we win Saturday at Garrett, I feel like the
  • McCallum added another 4 steals to his impressive season as he now leads the conference in that category.
  • Dom Keyes and White are currently in the top four of the conference for blocked shots per game.

UP NEXT:
  • Harford will travel to Garrett College on Saturday, January 28th for a game that will likely determine the regular season conference champions.
  • The Lakerss are 17-2 on the season and are 2nd in the conference at 8-2 with their only conference losses coming against Hagerstown and Cecil.
