 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hagerstown's logistical issues forced the start time of the game to be pushed back an hour as the chilly night air only got colder as night shrouded the Harford Stadium.
  • Harford controlled possession for much of the first half but to no avail for the first half hour as the many shots failed to find the back of the net.
  • The breakthrough finally occurred in the 38th minute when a trio of Brazilians collaborated when Henrique Castilho charged down the right side of the field into the box. His cross in was flicked on by Eder Arcanjo into the path of Antonio Savi who buried the shot from the top of the box into the top corner of the net to give Harford the lead.
  • Hagerstown responded back less than minutes later when a long 35 yard free kick got by goalkeeper Michael Nelson and allowed Hagerstown some hope going into the intermission tied 1-1.
  • Coming out of the break it was Hagerstown that took the lead on another long shot that found it's way into the Harford net that gave the Hawks a surprising 2-1 lead.
  • Harford responded almost immediately when Tyler Green took a hard foul in the offensive zone that forced him out of the game. The ensuing free kick by Castilho was headed into the net by Tyler's brother Larsen Green to tie the game after an hour of play.
  • Green came back to take the lead eight minutes later when he collected a rebounded shot and slotted it into the net to the delight of the Fighting Owl faithful that weathered the cold.
  • The boys in blue continued to keep the pressure on throughout the second half as Harford added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when Castilho had a free kick in almost the exact location as the previous goal but this time it was William Wangu who jumped over everyone on the field and headed it home for his fifth goal of the season.
  • In the dying minutes of the game, Victor Prado sparked a counter attack and was taken down in the box to draw a penalty kick that Antonio Savi buried for his 23rd goal of the year to close out the regular season in fine fashion.
