 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Monroe came out firing early, making their first two shots from long range on their way to a 9-0 run to start the game before a Batur Sahinoz hook shot five minutes into the game got Harford on the board.
  • DeZ Brown continued his great defensive play with back-to-back blocks as Harford answered back with a 5-0 run.
  • The Mustangs proceeded to go on a 23-2 run over the next 10 minutes as Harford made just one field goal over the first 17 minutes of the game.
  • Da'Von Fludd finally broke the shooting drought with a mid-range jumper followed by a Khalil Williams-Diggins three pointer to give the Fighting Owls a little momentum.
  • Martin Kelly Jr. sparked a late run for Harford with back-to-back layups in the last minute of the first half as Harford trailed Monroe 39-21 at halftime shooting just 20% from the floor.
  • Harford did a much better job of getting to the paint in the second half as layups by Sahinoz, Isaiah Boggs, and Ortiz along with three pointers from Karon Green and Kelly Jr. brought Harford back to a 10 point deficit with 11 minutes to play.
  • The Harford full court press started to create some turnovers including a steal by Williams-Diggins that led to a monster dunk by Brown to bring Harford to within five points.
  • With Monroe starting to pull away again, Green hit another clutch three pointer with seven minutes left to bring Harford within eight points, but he shortly thereafter fouled out with eight points and four rebounds.
  • Down by 12 with a minute and a half left, Malik Jones hit a long three from the top of the key and Boggs was able to get a steal and layup to make it a 73-66 Monroe lead.
  • Jones was fouled on a long range attempt and made all three free throws to make it a five point deficit with 30 seconds to play, but that would ultimately be the closest Harford would get.
  • Jones, Brown, and Kelly Jr. all finished with 11 points while Boggs and Williams-Diggins scored nine points each.
  • Brown also had 13 rebounds in the game for his third double-double of the season as well as another three blocks while Boggs tallied four steals in the game.
