 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Owls hosted Cape Fear in a rematch of last year's District Championship game that the Sea Devils won 3-1 after Harford had a 1-0 lead at halftime.
  • This year's version had a much different look to it as it was Harford's turn to host the game and the vociferous Harford crowd boosted the Fighting Owls forward early and often.
  • All-American sophomore Alexandria Adams nearly put Harford ahead in the first five minutes of the game with a shot that caromed off the cross bar.
  • Harford continued to put pressure on as Kasie Lambert saw a good shot sail just high before Mackzenzie Wills had a shot saved in the box then Rachel Bohli forced a couple more saves from the Sea Devils goalkeeper.
  • The breakthrough came in the 14th minute when Briana Stabile laid the ball off to Adams who crushed a shot from 20 yards out into the top of the net to put Harford ahead.
  • Adams picked up another point just eight minutes later when her pass found Bohli at the top of the box who hit a powerful left footed shot into the top corner for her 26th goal of the year and doubled Harford's lead.
  • Cape Fear featured one of the top forwards in the country as Carly Higgins came into the game with 34 goals in 17 games. However, the incredible Harford defense held her to just one shot on goal that goalkeeper Crystal Kline comfortably.
  • The Sea Devils came out strong with a couple of shots on goal in the first four minutes of the second half that Kline saved as she finished with three saves on the day to earn her nation leading 15th shutout of the year.
  • Harford had a glorious chance to score a third goal midway through the second half as Lambert and Bohli had back-to-back shots hit the cross bar and were unlucky to see either cross the goal line.
  • The Fighting Owls defense once again deserves a huge amount of credit for the success of the team as Emily Raulie, Emily Doleschal, Kassie Dieter, Alecia Rotunno and Ali Cataggio held the Sea Devils to just five shots in the game compared to the 32 that Harford let fly.
  • With time ticking down, the Fighting Owls continued to control the ball and were able to hold on to book their ticket to the National Tournament for the first time since 2014.

UP NEXT
  • Harford earns a ticket to Melbourne, Fla. for the NJCAA Division I National Tournament that will begin on November 13th.
  • The selection show to see what pool the Fighting Owls are placed in will occur within the next two days, subject to the NJCAA schedule.
