    • Game 2: Harford 13 –  Bryant & Stratton 3 (5 innings)
  • Records: Harford 4-2  | Bryant & Stratton 2-8
  • Location: Norfolk, Va. - Lakewood Park
  • The Short Story: The Harford baseball team picked up their first doubleheader sweep of the season as a dramatic first game was followed by a mercy rule shortened game with the Fighting Owls' bats catching fire.
  • Box Score:

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

  • Tre Todd continued his proclivity at the lead-off spot with a double to start the game and then scored via Toby Sponseller's RBI single.
  • Luke Johnson drove in Sponseller with a big double and later crossed the plate on a Ryan Calhoun RBI groundout for an early 3-0 Harford lead.
  • Bryant & Stratton answered back with four runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.
  • Neither team scored again until the fourth inning when a few walks loaded the bases for Harford.
  • Peyton Sorrels hit a ball right at his counterpart who booted it allowing a run to score and keeping the bases juiced.
  • Todd stepped up once again with a two RBI single as the Fighting Owls regained the lead at 6-4.
  • The Bobcats halved that lead in the bottom of the fourth, but starter Tim Kranz did a good job to limit the damage.
  • Harford loaded the bases again in the top of the fifth but CJ Lopez was unable to cash in.
  • Colin Bowling relieved Kranz midway through the bottom of the fifth and was able to strike out a pinch hitter to strand a runner on third and preserve the lead.
  • The Bobcats started another rally in the bottom of the 6th to no avail as their clean-up hitter grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.
  • Bowling struck out a pair in the bottom of the seventh to earn his first save of the season.
GAME 2
  • The night cap lacked all of the drama of game one as the Fighting Owls bats came alive in a big way.
  • A big second inning was started out on a Ronnie Krsolovic double with Jordi Arias driving him in and capped off by Tre Todd stealing home for a 4-0 lead.
  • Harford got it going again in the fourth with a couple of walks followed by a Sponseller 2-RBI single, Joey Schwartz single, Luke Johnson RBI single, and an Adam Rapp sac-fly to make it 8-0.
  • Harford starting pitcher Nick Turnbull game up three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but that was the only time he was really touched up in the game.
  • The Fighting Owls again punished the Bobcats in the fifth as Shawn Nickles walked, Krsolovic doubled for the second time, Arias doubled to drive in two, and then that Tre Todd guy cranked a ball over the fence for his second home run of this young season.
  • Harford kept the inning going and eventually scored again on Rapp's second double of the game to drive in a run and give the boys in blue a 13-3 lead.
  • Turnbull shut down the Bobcats in the bottom of the fifth as the mercy rule went into effect for a Harford victory.

GAME QUOTES & NOTES
  • Head Coach Tom Eller: "We survived a close first game and our bats came alive in game two. Our pitching was solid all day long and our infield defense is proving to be an early season strength for this team."
  • Game one starter Tim Kranz picked up his second win of the season with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched.
  • Colin Bowling racked up three strikeouts and no walks or runs along with inducing four ground outs in 2.2 innings.
  • Harford won the first game despite only six hits in the game with six walks certainly helping the cause.
  • Coach Eller made six changes to the line-up in game two, and those moves paid off as the team cranked out 12 hits including five doubles and a home run along with five stolen bases.
  • Ronnie Krsolovic and Jordi Arias particularly stepped up from the eight and nine spots in the line up, combining to go 4-4 with two walks, six runs, four RBIs, and three doubles.

UP NEXT
  • Harford will finally get to enjoy their home opener as they host Mercer County on Sunday, February 26 at 12 PM.
  • The Vikings are 2-0 on the season after a doubleheader sweep over Cumberland to start their year.
