Harford Sweeps Southern Maryland

Both games end via the mercy rule with Mike Taylor not giving up a hit

  • The Short Story: The Harford baseball team picked up a comfortable doubleheader sweep over their conference foes from the south.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • The Fighting Owls got a great start out of Mike Taylor, who pitched five shutout innings with eight strikeouts and three walks in a dominant outing.
  • Harford scored in bunches as they put up five in the second and eight more in the fourth.
  • Coach Tom Eller moved Peyton Sorrels to the two spot in the line-up and was rewarded with a  3-4 days including a home run and three RBIs.
  • Adam Rapp and Ryan Calhoun added a couple of hits from the middle of the order as did Ronnie Krsolovic with 2-3 performance with three RBIs, two runs, and a double that almost put a hole through the left field wall.
  • Tanner Forry continued his hot hitting streak with a couple of doubles and CJ Lopez had a couple of hits as six of the Harford starters had multi-hit games.
  • Tre Todd ran rampant on the base paths with a couple of steals.
GAME 2
  • Truman Thomas did his best to follow up Taylor's performance with seven strikeouts in five innings including two hits and one walk.
  • Tre Todd continued to do his job from the lead-off spot with a hit and a walk along with a couple more stolen bases.
  • Luke Johnson, Ryan Calhoun, and Joey Schwartz all hit doubles in the game with Johnson picking up a trio of RBIs.
  • Peyton Sorrels enjoyed a 2-2 game as he finished the day 5-6 before being pulled.
  • The most entertaining moment of the game was in the bottom of the fifth with Harford up 8-0 when Nick Atkinson hit a walk-off two run home run to invoke the mercy rule and send the fans in blue home happy.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will face another conference foe with a trip to Prince George's on Tuesday, March 14 at 3 PM.
  • The other Owls are 10-2-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in conference play with a loss to CCBC Essex and a tie with CCBC Catonsville.
