Fighting Owls Split With Cougars

Harford was just two outs away from completing the sweep

  • The Short Story: The Harford softball team came up with a huge conference win over the Cougars and were just two outs away from completing the sweep before Frederick rallied in the seventh to force a split.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

  • Pitcher Alexis Valentine hurled five fantastic innings as she gave up just two hits and one run with four strikeouts and no walks.
  • Harford jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second as the Fighting Owls consistently put the ball in play and forced the Cougar defenders to make four errors in the inning.
  • The Fighting Owls would go on to earn another run in the third inning on a Savannah Meyers RBI groundout and Emily Bowler capped the scoring with a two run bomb.
  • Emily Bowler led the offense going 2-3 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs.
GAME 2
  • Harford jumped out to another early lead in the night cap as they small-balled their way to three runs capped off by a Lindsey Bowler RBI single.
  • Frederick got a run back in the third inning that was canceled out by an Alexis Valentine RBI single in the fourth inning.
  • Going into the seventh inning with a 4-1 lead, the Cougars rallied to score four runs and the Fighting Owls were unable to respond in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Harford only had four hits in the game with two coming from Alexis Valentine.
  • Despite the seventh inning results, Emily Bowler pitched a great game against a good Cougars line up.
