Softball Earns Big Sweep

  • The Short Story: The Harford softball team came up with a huge conference win over the Cougars and were just two outs away from completing the sweep before Frederick rallied in the seventh to force a split.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

  • Pitcher Alexis Valentine hurled five fantastic innings as she threw a shutout and gave up just three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
  • Harford jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning with a rally highlighted by an Emily Bowler RBI double.
  • E. Bowler would hit a two RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning and would score on an Emily Wikane double.
  • Samantha Znamiroski and Samantha Koga each added RBI singles to the big six run fourth inning that put Harford up by 10 and invoked the mercy rule.
  • The Bowler twins led the way in the two and three spots, combining to hit 5-5 with three RBIs, four runs, and a walk.
GAME 2
  • Harford continued their hot hitting ways in the night cap as they scored 15 run in four innings to again mercy rule the Kats.
  • The top five in the Fighting Owls line-up all recorded multiple hits with Emily Bowler hitting 4-4, Emily Wikane 3-3, and Samantha Znamiroski also hitting 3-3.
  • Julia Gatch added a 2-4 night with four RBIs from the eight spot as every Harford player in the batting order recorded at least one hit.
  • Emily Bowler cruised through five innings on the mound, giving up just three hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will travel south to face conference rivals Anne Arundel on Wednesday, March 27 at 3 PM.
  • The Riverhawks are 6-5 on the season and 2-0 in the conference with a sweep against Montgomery.
