HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

  • Pitcher Alexis Valentine hurled five fantastic innings as she threw a shutout and gave up just two hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts.
  • Valentine also got it done with the bat as she went 3-3 with three runs and three RBIs and a stolen base.
  • Lindsay Bowler, Emily Bowler, Emily Wikane, Caroline Frank and Brittany Bergquist all had multi-hit games with E. Bowler and Bergquist driving in three runs each.
  • Harford jumped all over the Riverhawks with a seven spot in the first inning and another five in the second.
GAME 2
  • The nightcap had a much different feel to it as both teams were held scoreless for seven innings to force extra innings.
  • Emily Bowler pitched 3.1 innings giving up no hits, but was relieved in the bottom of the fourth after giving up back-to-back walks.
  • Alexis Valentine came in and struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam.
  • Harford had numerous chances to score throughout the game as they had runners in scoring position in the first, third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings but were unable to plate any of those opportunities.
  • With Valentine shutting down the Riverhawks, Harford finally broke through in the top of the eighth as they scored seven runs; all of which came with two outs highlighted by RBI doubles from Caroline Frank, Samantha Koga, and a two-RBI triple by Emily Bowler.
