Fighting Owls mercy rule both games in doubleheader

  • The Short Story: The Harford softball team finally enjoyed their home opener as the Fighting Owls gave their fans an exciting offensive night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

  • The Fighting Owls got some great offensive production in the first home game of the season as every player in the starting line-up finished with at least one hit.
  • Harford was led by Caroline Frank, who hit an impressive 3-4 with three runs.
  • Emily Bowler hit a two RBI double in the third inning and Samantha Koga topped that with a bases loaded double to clear the bases in the fourth inning.
  • Pitcher Alexis Valentine hurled five solid innings, scattering five hits and one run with three strikeouts.
GAME 2
  • For the second straight game, the Thunder Wolves got a run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead.
  • After that it was all Fighting Owls as they went on to score the next 10 runs in the game to close out another mercy rule run-shortened game.
  • Harford scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning thanks to four straight RBI singles and a 2-RBI double by Julia Gatch.
  • The Fighting Owls put up another four runs in the fourth culminated by an Emily Bowler triple to deep center to score Caroline Frank.
  • Alexis Valentine pitched another four solid innings before Emily Bowler came in to strike out the side in the fifth to close out the game.
  • Valentine, Emily Wikane, Samantha Znamirowski, Caroline Frank, and Emily Bowler all picked up a couple of hits in the game.
