Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Mercer

Harford wins game two in extra innings

  • The Short Story: The Harford softball team picked up their second win of the year in an extra innings thriller to split the double header against Mercer County.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

  • Alexis Valentine pitched a six inning gem for the Fighting Owls, giving up just one earned run in six innings with one strikeout and no walks.
  • The Harford bats just couldn't get going at all in the first game with Valentine and Caroline Frank the only players to get hits in the game.
GAME 2
  • The second game provided much more drama, including Emily Bowler striking out six betters and allowing just one earned run in eight innings.
  • The Fighting Owls and Mercer played a taut affair but Harford eventually prevailed after taking the lead for good in the eighth inning. The game was tied at three with the Fighting Owls batting in the top of the eighth when Emily Wikane hit an RBI double to score Caroline Frank to take the lead and later scored on a Samantha Koga RBI groundout.
  • The Fighting Owls collected 11 hitsw with Alexis Valentine, Emily Wikane, Emily Bowler, and Samantha Znamirowski each collecting multiple hits. Sam antha Koga, Znamirowski, Wikane, and Valentine each drove in one run.

  • Harford will return to New Jersey to face Camden County on Wednesday, March 8th at 2 PM.
