Harford Splits With Allegany

Fighting Owls fall just short of a sweep on sophomore day

  • The Short Story: The Harford softball team dominated game one to earn a split as the Fighting Owls honored their sophomore class before the game. Harford's two sophomores this year, Emily Wikane and Brittany Bergquist, have both been valuable two-year members of the Fighting Owls softball program.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • The Fighting Owls jumped out to a great start in the first inning as Samantha Znamiroski drove in a couple of runs.
  • Caroline Frank and Emily Wikane added RBI singles in the fourth and fifth innings respectively on ground ball singles.
  • Allegany got a run back in the top of the sixth on a home run, but Harford responded with five runs in the bottom half.
  • Alexis Valentine hit a big RBI triple to right field to score Julia Gatch followed by RBI singles from Lindsay Bowler and Znamiroski with Emily Bowler also scoring on a wild pitch.
  • Valentine, L. Bowler, Znamiroski, Wikane, and Frank all tallied multi-hit games with Valentine also picking up eight strikeouts and the win.
GAME 2 
  • The Fighting Owls kept the momentum going in game two as Emily Bowler tripled to right field to score her sister Lindsay Bowler and later scored on a Samantha Znamiroski RBI ground out.
  • That was the last time Harford would score in the game with just four hits over the final six innings.
  • Lindsay Bowler went 3-3 in the game accounting for nearly half of all Harford hits in game two.
  • E. Bowler gave up just five hits and two walks over seven innings along with five runs, two unearned, and five strikeouts.

  • Harford will travel to Messiah College on Monday, April 17 at 3 PM.
  • The Fighting Owls have just four regular season games left as they prepare for the regional tournament that starts on April 21 in South Carolina.
