HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Owls got out to a fantastic start as they led the first place Dragons 5-1 after 16 minutes of play.
  • Nina Urban took advantage of space to score two early goals and Julianna Butta buried a couple of free position shots.
  • Mackenzie Wills was superb on clears as she used her athleticism to run circles around the Dragons which led to an assist on Courtney Poole's first goal.
  • Howard responded back strong with 10 straight goals covering between the end of the first half through the first 15 minutes of the second half.
  • Poole was able to snap that streak and Urban scored back-to-back goals to close the gap to 11-8.
  • The Dragons answered with three straight to put the game out of reach, despite Natalie Neff making a great isolation drive to score and Courtney Poole completing her hat trick in the last minute.
  • Howard did most of their damage on free position shots as they had 18 attempts and scored on seven of nine free position shots.
  • The Fighting Owls defense did a great job holding the nation's leading goal scorer to just a single goal.
  • Wills was credited with six caused turnovers and two ground balls as she had a very effective game all over the field.
  • Erica Wright tallied six saves as she was under pressure for so much of the contest; particularly free position attempts.
UP NEXT:
  • The Fighting Owls will now prepare for the regional tournament that will be played at the Harford Stadium.

  • The #4 ranked Riverhawks are 8-4 on the season and enter the tournament as the three seed including a couple of regular season victories over Harford.
