Fighting Owls Split With Catamounts

Shinn leads the way with a couple of home runs

  • The Short Story: The Harford Baseball team lost a dramatic game one before controlling the second game to earn a split. With the win, Harford clinches the #1 seed in the Region 20 Division I tournament that starts in just over two weeks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
 

  • Michael Devecchio took the bump for the Fighting Owls as he was able to pitch a complete seven innings, giving up five runs with a couple of strikeouts.
  • Ryan Shinn hit a solo home run to deep left field to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
  • With Harford down 3-1, they got a rally going in the bottom of the third with a lead off walk from Tre Todd and a double by Peyton Sorrels.
  • Luke Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to score Todd to halve the Catamounts' lead, but Harford was unable to add any more runs.
  • After Potomac State scored two more in the top of the seventh, Harford threatened again in the bottom with coach Tom Eller throwing numerous substitutions to get a rally going.
  • John Mastrangelo hit a pinch hit single then Joey Schwartz was hit by pitch as a pinch hitter to load the bases with one out.
  • Todd grounded out to score a run then Sorrels was hit by a pitch to load the bases again.
  • Luke Johnson drew a walk to score a run and cut the Potomac State lead to 5-4, but Shinn was unable to complete the comeback when he struck out to end the game.

GAME 2

  • The Fighting Owls jumped out to the early lead in game two on a two RBI double by Adam Rapp to left center then Ryan Shinn extended the lead with his second home run of the game with a monster shot to left center.
  • Harford kept the momentum going with a Peyton Sorrels two RBI double and a Luke Johnson two RBI single to grow Harford's lead to 7-1.
  • Pitcher Will Reed hurled five innings with six strike outs and only two runs to get his fourth win of the year.
  • Mike Taylor picked up a two inning save to close out the game as Harford earned an important victory.

UP NEXT 

  • Harford will have no time to rest as they host Brookdale on Thursday, April 27 for a 6:30 PM game.
  • The Jersey Blues are 29-12 on the year and have not yet played any games against Md Juco or Region 20 teams.
