Harford Splits in Exciting Doubleheader

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • Pitcher Alexis Valentine came out strong in the first two innings with four strike-outs and didn't allow any batters on base. 
  • Valentine started off the Fighting Owls with a hard hit single, followed by a base hit by Lindsay Bowler.
  • The Barons responded by getting on base early and scoring off a single at the top of the third inning. Barons-1 | Fighting Owls-0
  • Samantha Koga broke through Harford's batting struggle with a base hit, but was then thrown out a second base on an attempted steal.
  • Harford was able to hold off the Barons from scoring so they could quickly respond in the bottom of the fourth. Emily Wikane started off with a base hit followed by Caroline Frank and Julia Gatch.
  • Samantha Znamiroski and Savannah Meyers hit in two runs bringing Harford back into the lead.
  •  Barons responded at the top of the sixth by getting on base early and scoring two runs off the three of their base hits in the inning.
  • Harford held the Barons from scoring more runs but continued to struggle at bat, allowing the Barons to take home the win
GAME 2 
  • Harford jumped out to a great start in game two Alexis Valentine knocked a triple straight up the left side. Emily Bowler sac flied out to center field allowing Valentine to tag up and score the first run.
  • Harford's defense remained strong in game two, not allowing any of the Barons batters to get on base in the first two innings,
  • Alexis Valentine started a rally for the Fighting Owls by bashing a triple to the outfield bringing Brittany Bergquist in to score. Lindsay Bowler followed with a base hit and later scored a run off an error by the Barons catcher. Valentine was able to score off a grounded out hit to shortstop by Emily Bowler
  • The Barons continued to struggle at bat as Harford protected the field with a 6-4-3 double play and an Emily Bowler strike-out to end the threat.
  • Brittany Bergquist added another run to the board for Harford as she struck a double out in centerfield bringing Caroline Frank home. 
  • The Barons responded by scoring a run off an error by Harford in the fifth inning. 
  • In the Barons final at bats they attempted to rally off some hits by getting on base early and scoring two more runs off of four of their base hits. 
  • But Harford was able to hold the Barons off until the final inning, earning the win for Game 2. 

UP NEXT 
  • Harford will travel to La Plata, Md. on Wednesday, April 5th to take on conference opponent Southern Maryland scheduled for 3 PM.
  • The Hawks have a 14-4 record and are third in the conference with a 3-1 conference record with a sweep over Allegany and a split with Cecil.
