HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In a rematch of the epic 2016 Region 20 finale, the Fighting Owls were unable to get revenge on their conference rivals.
  • Harford got on the board first with an early goal from Nina Urban who is now firmly in second for most goals in the NJCAA.
  • After that it was all Howard as the Dragons scored four straight goals to close out the first half.
  • Despite being shut out in the first half, the Dragon's Cassidy Delaney who leads the nation in goals by a wide margin scored the first three out of the break to bring her up to 35 in 9 games.
  • The real story of the game was the defense and goal keeping by both teams.
  • Harford's defense did a great job in bottling up the Dragons fast paced attack as Natalie Neff and Karlie Abbott each forced three turnovers with Mackenzie Wills causing an additional two as they were able to hold a team that came into the game averaging 15.5 goals per game to just 9.
  • Goal keeper Erica Wright was fantastic with 14 saves and five ground balls while dealing with the prolific Dragons.
  • The Howard defense was even better as they suffocated Harford, allowing just one shot in the second half led by the veteran sophomore group of Danielle Spencer, Savanna Holt, Silvia Kim and Kirsten Murrill.
UP NEXT:
  • Harford will go back on the road to face the College of Southern Maryland Hawks on Thursday, April 6 at 4 PM.
  • The Hawks were relegated to club status for the 2017 season.
