HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Starting pitcher Michael Devecchio pitched a complete game gem for the Fighting Owls. He gave up a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly then held the Skipjacks scoreless over the next six innings with nine strikeouts.
  • Trailing after the first, Tanner Forry hit a home run down the left field line in the second to tie the game.
  • CJ Lopez hit a ground rule double to right field later in the inning followed by John Mastrangelo scoring on a wild pitch then Peyton Sorrels singled in a couple of runs to give Harford a 4-1 lead after two innings.
  • Neither team scored again until Forry bombed his second home run of the game deep to left center for a home run that was estimated to travel 420 feet.
  • Once again the Fighting Owls got a rally going after a Forry solo shot with Lopez hitting an RBI single to center that scored Toby Sponseller.
  • Nick Atkinson pinch ran for Mastrangelo and later scored on a balk when Tre Todd took off for second base which forced the Chesapeake pitcher to illegally come off the pitching runner.
  • Sorrels would then double to the left center gap to score Todd as Harford went up 8-1 after six.
  • Needing just one run to finish the game early, Tanner Forry jacked his third solo home run of the game to dead center as Harford closed out the tournament win.
