Fighting Owls Fall to Lancaster in First Round

Harford routed in opening round of district tournament

  • The Short Story: The Fighting Owls had their 14 game win streak snapped as they fell in the first round of the district tournament to USC Lancaster. With the loss, Harford moves to the loser's bracket of the double elimination tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Harford took the early lead in the game with a couple of runs in the bottom of the first fueled by an infield error by the Lancers.
  • Lancaster came back with six runs in the top of the second as the Harford pitchers struggled with control.
  • Mike Taylor came in relief in the second inning and was fantastic until running into trouble in the seventh.
  • Trailing 13-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, on RBI hits by Ryan Shinn, Tanner Forry and Ryan Calhoun to plate three runs.
  • Lancaster scored four more in the top of the ninth with Harford getting one back in the bottom half with back-to-back doubles by Peyton Sorrels and Ryan Shinn.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will attempt to prolong their season as they face Monroe College in the loser's bracket on Friday, May 19 at 3:30 PM.
  • The Mustangs are 23-25 on the season including an 8-0 loss to Florence Darlington Tech in the first round of the tournament.
