HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • After a first round loss in the eastern district tournament, Harford was put in a situation where they would need to win four straight elimination games to book a return trip to the Juco World Series.
  • That path began with a familiar foe as the Fighting Owls were pitted against Monroe College; the two teams played each other just two weeks prior.
  • Monroe scored a couple of runs in the top of the first which Harford answered via a Ryan Shinn RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Luke Johnson.
  • The Mustangs scored a run in the second on an error and another in the fifth on a solo home run to take a 4-2 lead.
  • Frankie Fraschetti was pulled after that despite a very effective start where he racked up six strikeouts over 4.1 innings allowing four runs, two of which were earned.
  • Tim Kranz relieved Fraschetti and immediately shut down the Mustangs on a double play when Tanner Forry caught a fly ball in center field and fired it home as the Mustangs runner was caught between third and home as Ryan Calhoun grabbed the cut off to tag the runner.
  • Kranz struck out a couple in a comfortable sixth inning but gave up a run in the seventh on a two out rally by the Mustangs.
  • Down by three with just nine outs left, the Fighting Owls finally got their vaunted offense going as CJ Lopez and Tre Todd walked to start the inning. Peyton Sorrels grounded into a double play and Ryan Shinn reached on an error to score Lopez.
  • Johnson walked to keep the inning alive which brought up playoff hero Tanner Forry who destroyed a pitch over the left center field wall for a three run home run to give Harford a 6-5 lead.
  • Kranz struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth and was one out away from closing the game out when Monroe hit a solo home run to tie the game.
  • Reid Frazier came into the game and struck out Crispino on three straight nasty sliders to take a tied game into the bottom of the ninth.
  • Forry walked to start the inning followed by a Nick Atkinson hit by pitch and Adam Rapp walked to load the bases with one out.
  • Lopez lined out which meant it all came down to Todd, who came through in the clutch with an infield single to score Forry as Harford earned a dramatic walk-off victory.
Game 2
  • Michael Devecchio took the mound for the Fighting Owls second game of the day in a rematch with USC Lancaster.
  • With the bases loaded in the first, Lancers DH Rusty Grayson hit a grand slam to left field as he had a career day for Lancaster, going 4-4 with six RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Devecchio settled in nicely after that as he kept the Lancer hitters off-balance with six strikeouts.
  • Truman Thomas came in relief in the fifth inning and added another four strikeouts in two innings of relief.
  • Harford put a run on the board in the third as CJ Lopez scored on a passed ball and another in the fourth as a deep fly ball to the right center warning track scored Adam Rapp for a sacrifice fly.
  • Lancaster would go on to score four runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh that would invoke a mercy rule loss for the first time all season for the Fighting Owls.
  • Rapp and Lopez each had a couple hits including a double each as they accounted for 80% of Harford hits in the game.
UP NEXT
  • Head coach Tom Eller will now be forced to replenish one of the most accomplished team's in the history of the program with 18 sophomores moving on.
  • The Fighting Owls finish the season with a 51-10-1 record and a program record 137 home runs as well as a pitching staff that combined for a 4.76 ERA and 495 strikeouts in 429 innings pitched.
