HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • The Fighting Owls offense continued to be explosive in the opener as the Fighting Owls hit four home runs. Overall, the team racked up 14 hits and drew 11 walks
  • Joey Schwartz had a big game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two runs batted in. His hits included a double and his second home run of the season.
  • Schwartz's home run happened to be the the one that broke the school record for home runs in a season set in 2016. The Fighting Owls hit 119 home runs in 65 games. They surpassed that total in just 52 games this season.
  • Justin Fox tossed 5 2/3 solid innings. He gave up 5 runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out four. Despite allowing so many men on base, he was able to avoid the big inning multiple times.
  • Ryan Calhoun (9), John Mastrangelo (6) and Tanner Forry (9) each went deep in the game. Calhoun hit a three-run bomb to right field in the third inning. Mastrangelo hit a two-run shot two batters later. Forry hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning.
GAME 2
  • Reid Frazier showed a new dimension of his game in game two. Normally called on to nail the door shut in close games, Frazier entered the game in the second inning with his team down four runs and pitched five innings allowing just one run on three hits and a walk. He was just as dominant on the hill despite being asked to go longer than the usual one inning, evidenced by the seven strikeouts he piled up.
  • Mastrangelo hit a pair of home runs in the nightcap giving him eight on the season. He hit a three-run shot to right center in the fourth inning and followed it up with solo moon shot to right field in the fifth.
  • Mastrangelo hit three home runs in the doubleheader. The switch-hitting third baseman had both swings working as he went deep from the right side in game one and hit two balls out of the park from the left side in game two.
  • Forry hit an opposite field home run in the second inning. He became the sixth Harford slugger to reach double digits in home runs with his 10th of the season.
  • The three home runs in game two pushed the Fighting Owls total to 123 on the season. They continue to lead the nation by a large margin with the next closest team is behind 25 home runs.
UP NEXT
  • The Fighting Owls will host district rival Monroe on Thursday, May 4th in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM
  • The Mustangs will return to Harford Sports Complex for the first time since their loss to the Fighting Owls in the District Final last season. Monroe currently sport a record of 18-22.
