HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • Slugger Ryan Shinn, fresh from being named the NJCAA Division I player of the week, bashed his 20th home run of the season in the first inning to give Harford a 2-0 lead. Shinn has now hit eight home runs in his last 10 games during the incredible hot streak.
  • Monroe got one back in the top of the second, but the Fighting Owls responded with two runs in the bottom half when Tre Todd hit an RBI single then stole second and scored when the throw by the catcher sailed into center field.
  • The Mustangs scored a couple of runs in the top of the third on a two run home run and then tied the game in the top of the fourth on a trio of ground ball singles.
  • Harford regained the lead when John Mastrangelo hit a moon shot to the left field warning track that was misplayed by the Mustang fielder which allowed Toby Sponseller to score.
  • With runners on the corners, Tre Todd hit a double to the left center gap to score Mastrangelo to put Harford up 6-4.
  • Still with just one out in the inning, Shinn came up with the bases loaded and hit a sac fly to left field to increase the Fighting Owls lead to three after four innings.
  • Tanner Forry crushed his 10th home run of the year on two run shot to left center as the Fighting Owls extended their lead to 9-4.
  • Despite some early struggles, pitcher Michael Devecchio settled in nicely as he racked up 10 strikeouts in six innings to pick up his fourth win of the year.
GAME 2
  • The night cap started out with starting pitcher Will Reed striking out the side as he looked untouchable in the first inning.
  • Tre Todd led off the bottom of the first with his NJCAA leading 62nd walk of the year. He proceeded to steal second and third then would score on a throwing error by the pitcher on a pickoff move.
  • The Mustangs put together three hits in the top of the third to score a couple of runs and take their only lead of the day.
  • After Ryan Shinn and Luke Johnson walked, Tanner Forry hit an RBI double then scored on a Ryan Calhoun double to give Harford the lead back.
  • This was all the support Reed needed as he was fantastic, pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts and no walks.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will finish out the regular season at home on Tuesday, May 9 for a 6:30 PM single game against Rowan-Gloucester.
  • The Roadrunners are 38-11 on the year including a 13-1 loss against Harford back in mid-April.
