Harford Wins Regular Season Finale Over Gloucester

Four home runs leads the way for Harford's 11th straight win

  • The Short Story: The Fighting Owls closed out the regular season on a high note with their eleventh consecutive victory in a comeback win over Rowan-Gloucester. Harford knocked out four home runs on the day including a pinch hit grand slam by Shawn Nickles to put the game away.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Rowan-Gloucester Roadrunners jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.
  • Harford answered with back-to-back solo home runs by Luke Johnson and Adam Rapp in the second and another solo shot by Tre Todd in the third to tie the game. Johnson's home run was his 21st of the season which ties the Harford single-season program record.
  • The Roadrunners hit a two run homer in the fourth to regain the lead at 5-3.
  • Ryan Shinn hit a line drive to left field to score Peyton Sorrels in the fifth then John Mastrangelo hit a two run double off the center field wall to give Harford their first lead of the game.
  • Ahead 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Shawn Nickles came in to pinch hit with the bases loaded and mashed a grand slam over the center field wall.
  • The Fighting Owl relievers took over from there as Justin Fox, Joe Smeton, Briar Lauer, Truman Thomas and Reid Frazier each pitched a scoreless inning with a combined nine strikeouts between them and just two hits allowed.
  • Tim Kranz pitched two and two thirds in relief of starter Frankie Fraschetti and allowed just one hit with a couple of strikeouts.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will now begin their postseason quest beginning with the Region 20 Tournament beginning on Friday, May 12 in Hagerstown, Md.
  • The Fighting Owls enter the tournament as the #1 see will face off against #4 seed Chesapeake College at 1 PM in the opening round.
  • The Skipjacks are 29-17-1 on the year including a doubleheader loss at Harford on April 1st.
