 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Howard came out of the gates in this contest as the hungrier side as they recorded the first five shots and enjoyed more possession.
  • It was the Fighting Owls who lit up the lamp first as an Adam Toland corner kick resulted in a foul called on the Dragons in the box for a penalty kick.
  • Antonio Savi grabbed the ball, put it on the spot, and buried it into the bottom left corner of the goal as the Dragons goalkeeper guessed the wrong side to dive.
  • Howard tied the game 10 minutes into the second half when a pass back by Harford was left unattended by anybody wearing a blue shirt which allowed Steve Amankwah to jump at the loose ball and score into an open net.
  • Harford barely missed getting that goal back in the 69th minute when Grant Stefan caused a turnover in the midfield. Christopher Wright got hold of the ball and hit a through ball on the outside of his right foot into the path of Savi who tried to chip the Dragons goalkeeper who was off his line. Howard's net minder made a sprawling save to keep the ball out of his net then smothered the ball on the rebound with Savi almost getting there first.
  • Unfortunately for the Fighting Owls, defensive ace Jason Stump picked up his second yellow card late in the first overtime period as he prevented a breakaway with minimal contact on the Howard forward that caused him to be ejected.
  • The Dragons came the closest to breaking the dead lock with just one minute left in the extra periods when a shot was amazingly palmed by goalkeeper Michael Nelson into the side post where it bounced straight across where Nelson was able to pounce on it before it crossed the line.

UP NEXT
  • Harford will look to regain some momentum as they travel to CCBC Catonsville on Saturday, September 23 at 2 PM.
  • The Cardinals are 3-5-1 this season and 1-3-1 in conference play with losses to Frederick, Howard and Montgomery along with a win against Chesapeake and a tie versus Hagerstown.
