 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Harford came into the game needing a win to keep pace in a very competitive conference with the Hawks just looking to get their first conference victory of the season.
  • Shockingly, it was the Southern Maryland squad that got on the board first when a long cross squirreled all the way through to the back post that was tapped in by Stephen Larsen in the 13th minute.
  • Corey Alt was brought onto the pitch six minutes later and made an immediate impact as he scored on a fantastic cross by Henrique Castilho to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Larsen Green twice hit the post in the first half as he was extremely unlucky to not have scored the go ahead goal in the opening stanza.
  • The second half was very much a struggle in the middle of the field as both teams failed to get many good scoring chances, but one moment of brilliance was all that was needed to break the dead lock.
  • In the 57th minute it was Alt who took the ball down the left side of the attack. His dangerous cross was knocked down by the Hawks goalkeeper and floated around in the box long enough for Alt to pick up his own cross and slam it home to give the Fighting Owls the lead.
  • Harford saw a number of shots blocked in the second half and Southern Maryland finally got a shot through on goal with six minutes left that goalkeeper Michael Nelson was able to grab.
  • The Fighting Owls controlled much of the possession in the waning minutes of the game and were able to escape with the much needed three points.

UP NEXT
